NOWPDP and FESF commence teacher training workshop

We take pleasure in announcing the launch of NOWPDP’s new initiative, named ‘Master Trainers Program: Instructing and Guiding Children with Special Educational Needs’, in collaboration with the Family Education Services Foundation (FESF). On 7th to 9th January 2010, NOWPDP and the FESF hosted the first 3-day training workshop in Karachi.

The purpose of this program is to build onto the existing capacity of government and private school teachers in the special education sector. Increasing the capacity of teachers will in turn increase the quality of education provided to children with disabilities, along with a transfer of knowledge to parents of these children.
For this purpose, NOWPDP has employed the concept of ‘training of trainers’ program, whereby 26 candidates, from various schools and organizations working in the disability sector, have been trained by our head trainer, Mary A. Riek, director at FESF.

These trainers will in turn provide training to teachers in special education institutions across Sindh in the first stage of this program. In the long-term, this will be extended across the rest of Pakistan. The knowledge base of the trainers will be supplemented by regular trainings provided on an ongoing basis, resulting in a continual improvement of the trainees and in turn, the capacity of school teachers.
