On 7th October 2017, NOWPDP – a disability inclusion initiative – hosted ‘Meri Dunya Ke Rang’ (an art exhibition to showcase the expression of emotion by children with disabilities and promote the use of art as a medium of therapy) at the Sanat Gallery. This exhibition was conceptualized to give children with disabilities a voice, and includes paintings from the pilot round of Artpreneurs for Change, an art therapy project which helps children with disabilities express themselves and develop emotionally.
The exhibition was attended by individuals from various parts of Karachi. Twenty paintings were presented to these guests for a silent auction, and the proceeds went into supporting art by and art therapy for children with disabilities. The exhibition is part of NOWPDP’s initiative to give these children a platform and visibility in cultural avenues within the city.
Mr. Amin Hashwani, President NOWPDP, stated, “NOWPDP is proud to facilitate such opportunities for these children, and hopes to instill in them a sense of confidence about their capacity to create positive change through their work. Art therapy has been proven as an effective tool for social and cognitive development, and aids communication in situations where conventional methods may not be possible. With ‘Meri Dunya Ke Rang’ we hope to encourage inclusion of the unique perspectives offered by these children, and create a narrative where they are equally, independently present in cities and society.”
