Friday September 28, 2018: NOWPDP marked the launch of their Enterprise Development Center (EDC) – in collaboration with SEED Ventures; with an informative panel discussion on “Poverty Alleviation through Financial Inclusion”.
The inauguration was attended by CEO Acumen Pakistan – Dr. Ayesha Khan, CEO Aman Foundation – Mr. Ahmed Jalal , CEO SEED Ventures – Mr. Faraz Khan, Director National Incubation Center – Shahjahan Chaudhary and moderated by President NOWPDP – Mr. Amin Hashwani.
After the success of the pilot project, the business support program for persons with disabilities, where 11 businesses were initiated, this year, 16 people with disabilities got a unique chance to attend Self-Employment Training to expand their knowledge of entrepreneurship. The submitted business ideas cover a range of ambitions: from home décor to food stalls and from tailoring business to general store. The trainees also received their course-completion certificates at the launch event.
About how to empower persons with disabilities through self-employment, CEO Acumen – Ayesha Khan mentioned that we need “to support, to mentor, to enable and move that idea forward”. And CEO SEED Ventures – Mr. Faraz Khan added that “we have to make entrepreneurs in all segments” highlighting the need for inclusion in financial and all aspects of the society. Additionally, CEO Aman Foundation – Mr. Ahmed Jalal commented “agar jaldi jaana hai tou khud jayen aur duur jana hai tou baki sab ke saath jayen” and Director National Incubation Center – Mr. Shahjahan Chaudhary added that “everyone should know their advantages and strengths and play around them”.
The next step for EDC is to disburse loans to those trainees who require funding to start their businesses. NOWPDP aims to consolidate EDC as a platform that helps more people with disabilities in becoming financially independent and empowered via self-employment.
