Engro Foods launches Internship Program for Persons with Disabilities

Engro Foods, which is NOWPDP’s first client for Yaqeeen, has always celebrated and embraced diversity in all its forms be it gender and ethnic diversity or working towards a more inclusive environment. Following up on the steps taken towards a more inclusive environment in the last two years, in June 2016 Engro Foods initiated a three months internship program specifically for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

A special internship program was launched where a total of 7 internship slots, 3 for the Head Office in Karachi and 2 each for the plants in Sukkur and Sahiwal were allocated for PWDs. During the three month period the interns will get extensive on the job training with special emphasis on skill set development along with regular feedback sessions from their supervisors. At the end of the internship period, they will be considered for full-time positions based on availability of positions and performance of the candidate.

The internship program was developed jointly with NOWPDP. In connecting Engro Foods with the potential candidates, NOWPDP facilitated through its own pool of candidates as well as that of a cross-disability focused organization – LC Disability and Development Program (LCDDP).

This monumental journey with Engro Foods has been a major landmark for NOWPDP. In pursuit of becoming the employer of choice for all aspiring applicants, NOWPDP believes that Engro Foods can and will echo the same sentiment among all persons with disabilities in the near future.
