NOWPDP conducts disability inclusion training at Pakistan Village Development Program (PVDP), Peshawar

Monday, 22nd August 2016: Pakistan Village Development Program (PVDP) is currently undertaking disaster risk reduction (DRR) and gender-based violence (GBV) projects in Charsadda District with Irish charity organization – Trocaire. As part of the follow up to the Disability Inclusion Training conducted on 25 March 2016, which was attended by three representatives of PVDP, NOWPDP conducted a review of PVDP’s HR policies and program designs, through Program Yaqeeen.

Nabil Shaukat and Karim Navroz Ali from NOWPDP provided the PVDP team with an understanding of disability issues in Pakistan as well as elements related to disability such as Policy and Legislation, Accessibility, Workplace Inclusion and communication etiquette to support them in making an action plan for disability inclusion for their organization as well as programmatic activities, in particular the areas of DRR and GBV.

The overall session was interactive and participants showed interest in knowing more about social model of disability, how it applies to their field of work and the essential tips and tricks that can be implemented, which would include persons with disabilities in their work. Members of the senior management of PVDP (Director Programme and Executive Director) were also briefed about the initiative and Mr. Saeed Akhtar from Trocaire was also present to facilitate the next steps with PVDP.
