NOWPDP Launches Model Accessible Workplace

NOWPDP organized an event to commemorate the launch of a Model Accessible Workplace at the NOWPDP House and highlight the importance of accessible workplaces in Pakistan, under the Inclusive Karachi for People with Disabilities Campaign which is a part of the ‘I am Karachi’ initiative.

Various accessibility, structural and design interventions at the NOWPDP House using the United Nation’s Accessibility Design Manual, the Accessibility Code of Pakistan 2006 and recommendations made by the Institute of Architects Pakistan to create a model accessible workplace. The different interventions included paving accessible ramps; installing grab rails, tactical paths, signage, and safety features; and creating accessible washrooms and workstations.

The Model Accessible Workplace Launch Event was attended by 45 participants, which included representatives from Engro, Insaf Network Pakistan, Legal Rights Forum, Family Education Services Foundation, Institute Architects Pakistan, Aga Khan Social Welfare Board, Danishkadah, Awareness Voluntary Organization, Government of Sindh’s Department of Social Welfare, Karigar Training Institute, and the JS Academy for the Deaf. The event included a ribbon cutting ceremony, which was followed by a walk-through tour of the premises, highlighting the accessibility interventions..
