NOWPDP’s Disability Consulting Program Yaqeeen joined hands with HBL last year to make it the pioneering inclusive bank of Pakistan.
Habib Bank Limited (HBL), the largest bank of Pakistan, with over 1,700 branches and a customer base exceeding eight and a half million relationships, has a history of being not only the market leader in its corporate services but also in being a social catalyst through its many initiatives. In line with its legacy, HBL’s partnership with NOWPDP has now entered into the implementation phase where infrastructural changes are being made for accessibility (with IAP’s support) in 30 HBL branches across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Alongside, NOWPDP is also conducting disability sensitization sessions with the employees of these branches.
Recently, the first of these awareness sessions was held on 19th February, 2016 with HBL’s top management in Karachi. More than 80 people from their senior staff attended the session, and highly appreciated the endeavours made by HBL and NOWPDP in undertaking an initiative of this magnitude. President HBL, Nauman Dar said that HBL is not taking this initiative as corporate social responsibility, for disability inclusion is much more than that. It is about giving people their fundamental rights.
Mr. Amin Hashwani, President NOWPDP, commended the team involved at HBL for its brilliant efforts and further stressed the importance of disability inclusion in business saying that “Having an inclusive society is good for business; it’s profitable because society is good and so is the economy. So even if you don’t do it out of charity you do as a strategic business initiative.”
Considering the dedication and interest evident in HBL’s management disability sensitization session, we are confident that by the end of this phase, the employees at HBL will welcome and appreciate individuals with disabilities.
