US Consulate Partners with NOWPDP, East River and HRD Network to Organize a Tech Camp for Persons with Disabilities

Sunday, 21st January 2018: The US Consulate partnered with NOWPDP, East River and HRD Network to organize a Tech Camp for persons with disabilities on developing social media tools for advocacy.

25 persons with disabilities participated in the two-day event which was host to a series of informative sessions from renowned individuals hailing from the corporate, tech and social activism world.

Consul General Grace Shelton in the opening ceremony said “Inclusion of people with disabilities in society is an integral part of promoting basic human rights and the US supports all efforts to remove barriers associated with disability.”

Also present, President NOWPDP, Amin Hashwani, stated “empowering the disabled is one of the best social investments a government can ever have. Such persons are potential asset, not a liability as they can play an active part in improving the GDP of a country.”

NOWPDP intends to work on similar events with more frequency as they propel persons with disabilities to be better equipped in dealing with dilemmas and making sure their voices are amplified and heard.
